Security Operations (SecOps)

Connect vulnerability intelligence to accountable remediation work.

ServiceNow SecOps helps security and IT teams turn vulnerability findings into owned, prioritised remediation work. The hard part is not importing findings; it is deduplicating them, connecting them to the right configuration items and assigning action to teams who can fix them.

We focus on the operational model around vulnerability response: data sources, prioritisation, assignment, exception handling and evidence that remediation has happened.

Good fit if

  • Scanner findings are imported but not consistently remediated
  • Security teams cannot track accountable owners and due dates
  • Duplicate findings obscure the real work queue
  • Audit evidence for remediation or accepted risk is difficult to assemble

Useful to have first

  • Security and infrastructure process owners to agree prioritisation
  • Scanner integration documentation and test access
  • CMDB or asset data sufficient to map findings to owners

What the work covers

  • Vulnerability Response data intake and deduplication
  • CI and asset matching against a governed CMDB
  • Risk-based prioritisation and remediation task routing
  • Integration with vulnerability scanners and security tools
  • Remediation SLAs, exception approvals and audit evidence
  • Security incident and operations workflow integration

How we build it

Scanner integration is designed with source identity, finding lifecycle and deduplication behaviour defined; repeated imports should update a finding, not create noise.

CI matching depends on a reliable CMDB and identification rules, so data quality issues are surfaced and corrected as part of the work.

Remediation assignment uses ownership and service context; exception and deferral workflows require a reason, approver and review date.

Dashboards distinguish new, open, accepted-risk and remediated findings with evidence, not just raw scanner volume.

What you receive

  • Documented vulnerability response operating model
  • Scanner integration and tested finding lifecycle
  • Prioritisation and assignment rules for remediation work
  • Exception and deferral workflows with approvals
  • Operational dashboards and audit evidence model
  • Security and IT team runbook

Common questions

Does SecOps automatically fix every vulnerability?

No. It helps coordinate, prioritise and evidence remediation. The fix itself is performed by the accountable technical team, through an approved change or deployment process.

What data is required for effective vulnerability response?

Scanner findings with stable identifiers and enough asset context to match them to configuration items and owners. A CMDB and asset baseline improves matching and assignment.

Can we handle accepted risk in the workflow?

Yes. Deferrals and exceptions can be captured with a justification, accountable approver, expiry or review date and an auditable record.

Can this work with our existing scanner?

It depends on the scanner and integration pattern. We review available connectors or APIs and establish the import, matching and deduplication approach before implementation.
