ServiceNow Development

Platform capability that works inside ServiceNow, not around it.

When native configuration cannot meet the requirement, the answer is disciplined development inside the platform — scoped applications, scripted logic and interfaces that follow ServiceNow standards and survive family releases.

We build with the maintenance burden in mind. Every Business Rule, Script Include and client script we write has a reason to exist, is documented, and is covered by tests where the change is significant enough to warrant them.

Good fit if

  • Your team has a backlog of ServiceNow work it cannot clear
  • An off-the-shelf process does not fit how your organisation actually operates
  • You need a capability built once and maintained by your own team afterwards
  • An existing customisation is fragile and needs rebuilding properly

Useful to have first

  • Access to a sub-production instance for development and testing
  • A named product owner who can make scope decisions during the build
  • Agreement on coding and documentation standards (we bring a default set)

What the work covers

  • Custom and scoped application development on the ServiceNow platform
  • Business Rules, Script Includes, Client Scripts, UI Policies and UI Actions
  • Flow Designer flows and subflows for process automation
  • Service Catalog items, Record Producers and order guides
  • Service Portal and Workspace (Next Experience) interfaces
  • Scripted REST APIs and inbound web service endpoints
  • Access control (ACL) design and data policy implementation
  • Update Set management and deployment between instances

How we build it

Server-side logic lives in Script Includes wherever it is reused; Business Rules stay thin and call into them, so behaviour is testable and not duplicated across tables.

Scoped applications keep custom development isolated from core platform tables, with explicit application access controls and dependency management through the Application Repository.

Client-side work favours UI Policies and declarative configuration over custom client scripts; g_user and g_form usage follows documented conventions.

Changes travel between environments as Update Sets (or via source control for scoped apps), reviewed before commit, with ATF test suites covering the critical paths.

What you receive

  • Developed functionality deployed to your production instance
  • Documented technical design for each significant build
  • Update Sets or source-control changesets ready for your release process
  • ATF test coverage for significant automated paths
  • A handover walkthrough with your team so they can own the work
  • Release notes and known limitations, stated plainly

Common questions

Do you build custom applications or configure existing modules?

Both, in that order. We configure native ServiceNow capability first and only develop where the requirement genuinely justifies it. Every customisation has to earn the maintenance it creates.

Who owns the code after delivery?

You do. Everything is delivered as Update Sets or source-control changesets in your instance, with documentation and a handover session so your team can maintain and extend it.

Can you work inside our existing release process?

Yes. We deliver through your existing instance hierarchy and release cadence, whether that is manual Update Set promotion or an automated pipeline.

How do you keep customisation upgrade-safe?

Scoped applications, thin Business Rules calling into Script Includes, documented design decisions and ATF coverage on critical paths. The aim is a platform that survives family releases without a rescue project.
