ServiceNow Health Checks
An evidence-based view of architecture, customisation, data quality, debt and upgrade readiness.
A health check is a structured review of your ServiceNow estate by people who build on the platform for a living: architecture, customisation, scripting, performance, security, CMDB quality, technical debt and upgrade readiness.
You get a written, prioritised findings report — what is fine, what is risky, what is costing you time — with recommendations you can act on independently or ask us to deliver.
Good fit if
- You have inherited a platform and need to know what you actually have
- Performance, instability or upgrade pain keeps recurring
- A major release is approaching and you need a readiness verdict
- You want an independent, technical second opinion on your estate
Useful to have first
- Read access to the production instance (and ideally a sub-production instance)
- Time with your platform owner for the discovery conversations
- Access to update logs, integration documentation and CMDB health data
What the work covers
- Platform architecture: instance strategy, environment promotion, application structure
- Customisation review: Business Rules, client scripts, scope discipline and upgrade risk
- CMDB and data quality: duplicates, staleness, ownership and reconciliation
- Process configuration: ITSM and other modules against how the organisation works
- Security posture: ACLs, roles, instance access and integration credentials
- Performance: known problem patterns, slow transactions, scheduled job load
- Integration review: error handling, monitoring and failure modes
- Upgrade readiness: skipped updates, customisation conflicts, release exposure
How we build it
The scripting review looks for the patterns that create debt: fat Business Rules, duplicated logic, undelegated client scripts, unscoped global development and missing ATF coverage.
Upgrade readiness is assessed against the skipped-update count and customisation overlap with the target family release, with the remediation effort ranked.
CMDB health is measured with the platform’s own health metrics — completeness, compliance, correctness and staleness — plus the ownership model behind them.
Security review covers ACL coverage on custom tables, role sprawl, integration credential handling and high-privilege account usage.
What you receive
- A written findings report, prioritised by risk and effort
- A technical debt register with recommended remediation per item
- An upgrade-readiness assessment for your next family release
- A pragmatic roadmap: what to fix first, what to leave, what to stop doing
- A findings walkthrough with your team, recorded so it can be shared
Common questions
How long does a health check take?
Typically a small number of weeks depending on instance complexity and module count. The review is bounded and evidence-based; we would rather deliver a sharp report than a six-month survey.
Will you try to sell a big remediation project afterwards?
The report is written so you can act on it independently, with your own team or with whoever you choose. If you ask us to deliver remediation, it is scoped from the same findings.
What do you look at first?
Upgrade exposure, technical debt in scripting, CMDB health and integration failure modes — the four areas that cause the most operational pain. The review sequence is agreed with you at the start.
Who receives the findings?
You do: a written report and a walkthrough with your team. Nothing is hidden behind a sales deck; the evidence is in the document.
